A high-tech product from green tea
Veregen® constitutes MediGene's second drug on the market. Veregen® is used for the treatment of external genital warts and is already available in the
USA and Germany. Veregen® makes MediGene the first German biotech company with a drug on the US market.
In the USA, Veregen® is distributed by MediGene's partner Nycomed US, Inc. Since March 2010, the drug has been distributed in Germany by Abbott Arzneimittel GmbH
(previously Solvay), with whom MediGene signed a license and supply agreement for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland in 2009. Approval for Austria has been granted and market launch in
Austria is planned for the summer of 2010.
Moreover, MediGene has closed a number of additional cooperation agreements for the sale and marketing of Veregen® in other European and Asian countries, an overview can be
found here.
Veregen® is an extract from green tea leaves manufactured in a highly complex, defined process. Genital warts are benign, but painful and disfiguring skin tumors in the
genital and anal areas. This sexually transmitted disease is caused by human papilloma viruses. Genital warts are one of the fastest spreading venereal diseases worldwide.
